Side-mounted electric opener on a TruGlide roll-up garage door in a metal building

Electric Openers for TruGlide Roll-Up Garage Doors

TruGlide Doors offers reliable electric opener systems designed specifically for roll-up garage doors used in garages, shops, metal buildings, and storage facilities.

    Roll-Up Door Opener Overview

Side-mounted openers engineered for TruGlide drum systems.

TruGlide roll-up doors use side-mounted electric openers that connect directly to the door's drum system. Unlike overhead operators used on sectional doors, these openers are compact, reliable, and designed for the coiling mechanism of roll-up garage doors.

Two electric opener models are available: EasyRoller 14 and Hiro. Each opener is matched to the correct drum size and door width for reliable operation.

    EasyRoller 14 Garage Door Opener

The EasyRoller 14 opener is designed for TruGlide doors equipped with a 9.5-inch drum. It provides smooth, reliable operation for standard-size roll-up doors.

    Compatibility

Doors 12 feet wide and smaller.

    Typical Applications

    • Residential garages
    • Small shops
    • Utility buildings
    • Equipment sheds

    Hiro Garage Door Opener

The Hiro opener is engineered for larger TruGlide doors that require a 12-inch drum and a heavier-duty motor for proper operation.

    Compatibility

Doors 14 feet wide and 16 feet wide.

    Typical Applications

    • Large shops
    • Metal buildings
    • Equipment storage
    • RV garages

Popular Door Sizes With Electric Openers

Electric openers are commonly installed on doors such as a 10×10 roll-up door, 10×12 shop door, 12×12 roll-up door, or 14×14 garage door. Smaller doors like the 9×8 and 10×8 are also frequently paired with the EasyRoller 14 opener for residential garages. For large commercial openings, the 16×16 roll-up door uses the Hiro opener with a 12-inch drum.

    Opener Installation Location

Electric motors are typically installed on the right-hand side of the door when standing inside the building looking outward.

Installing the motor on the opposite side can cause the opener to operate in reverse and may create installation issues. Always confirm the motor orientation before mounting.

    Chain Hoist Operators

Manual chain operation for larger doors.

Chain hoist operators provide a manual method to raise and lower larger, heavier roll-up doors. Chain hoists are included as a standard feature on:

    • All 14-foot wide doors
    • All 16-foot wide doors
    • 12-foot wide doors taller than 10 feet (e.g., 12x12 and 12x14)

    Chain & Motor Installation Rules

    Electric Motor Only

Motor is installed on the right side.

    Chain Hoist Only

Chain operator is installed on the right side.

    Both Motor & Chain

    Motor → right side
    Chain hoist → left side

This prevents interference between the two systems.

    Door Locking Systems

    Exterior Slide Latches

Used on doors without chain operators.

    • Doors under 10' wide — one latch on the right side
    • 10' wide doors — latches on both sides
    • Additional exterior latches available upon request

    Internal Kick Latches

Used on doors equipped with a chain hoist.

    • Kick latches installed on both sides of the door
    • Lock into notches cut into the bottom of the guide rails
    • Exterior latches are not used on chain hoist doors

    Custom Door Options

TruGlide can customize doors based on customer needs. For example, a chain hoist operator can be added to smaller doors (sizes smaller than 12x12).

When a chain hoist is added to a door that does not include one as standard, exterior slide latches are removed and internal kick latches are installed instead.

    Insulated Roll-Up Door Option

TruGlide can manufacture insulated roll-up doors for buildings that require improved thermal performance.

    Insulation Details

    • 2 mm foam insulation
    • Double-side taped to the interior of the door curtain
    • Approximate R-value of 1

Insulation helps reduce heat transfer and improve comfort inside garages, workshops, and storage buildings.

    Sealing Systems for Insulated Doors

When insulated doors are purchased, TruGlide also provides sealing components to reduce air infiltration around the door opening.

    Included Components

    • Header seal
    • Side brush seals

The side brush seal holder is extruded at a 45-degree angle to keep the door sealed tightly against the opening, reducing air leaks and improving insulated door performance.
